Privacy policy

This policy explains how Akshara Jewellers Pty Ltd (ABN 55 621 099 545), trading as Akshara Jewellers(“we”, “us”), handles your personal information when you use our online store at shopakshara.com.au, order from us, or contact us. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

Your account: your name, email address, phone number and password. We store your password only in a scrambled (hashed) form that we cannot read.
Your orders: what you ordered, the price, whether you’re collecting or having it delivered, your delivery address, and when you confirmed the order and accepted our terms.
Your payment: you pay by bank transfer, so we never see or store card details. Our bank statement shows us the name on the paying account, the amount and the reference.
Viewing requests and enquiries: the name, phone number, email and notes you give us.
Security records: the internet (IP) address used to place an order or change a password, sign-in attempts, and a record of changes made to your account and orders. These help us prevent fraud and resolve disputes.

If the law requires us to confirm who you are — for example under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 for some transactions — we will ask you for identification at the time, and handle it under this policy.

Why we use it

To create and run your account, and to take, confirm and fulfil your orders.
To match your bank transfer to your order, arrange delivery or collection, and contact you about it.
To answer your questions and viewing requests.
To keep records the law requires, including tax and anti-money-laundering records.
To protect you and us from fraud and misuse of the website.

We send emails about your account and orders only. We don’t send marketing emails, and if we ever start, we’ll ask you first and every email will have a way to stop them.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies that the website needs to work: to keep you signed in, and to remember your cart and wishlist. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your information. We share only what’s needed, with:

Service providers who run the website for us: our website host (Vercel), our database and photo storage (Supabase, stored in Sydney), and our email delivery service (Postmark).
Our business systems: our accounting and stock system (Odoo), so your purchase is recorded against your name.
Couriers: your name, delivery address and phone number, for insured delivery.
Our advisers and authorities: our accountant and lawyers, and government agencies such as the ATO or AUSTRAC when the law requires it.

Information stored overseas

Our database is in Australia. Some of our service providers are based overseas — including our website host and our email delivery service, which are in the United States — and may process your information there. We choose providers who protect personal information to a standard comparable with Australian law, and we’ll tell you which countries are involved if you ask.

How long we keep it

We keep order and payment records for as long as the law requires — generally five to seven years for tax and anti-money-laundering records. If you ask us to close your account, we’ll delete what we’re not required to keep.

Keeping it safe

Our website uses encrypted connections, passwords are stored hashed, and access to our admin is limited to our staff and protected by two-step sign-in. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as the law requires.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can see and update most of your details in your account. To ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to close your account, contact us using the details below. We’ll respond within 30 days.
